Info About Clay Types

Low-Fire Clay

Low-fire clay is typically earthenware and is glaze fired to Cone 06, the same temperature used for our paint-your-own pottery pieces. These firings are more affordable than specialty glaze firings because we can load them with our paint-your-own pottery pieces.

We recommend Old Potters brand, though many excellent low-fire clays are available online and in Lexington at Kentucky Mudworks.

Mid-Fire Clay

Mid-fire clays include stoneware and porcelain. It is important for you to know your clay type because at our studio, we only do specialty glaze fire to Cone 6.

This carries a higher cost because it must be fired separate from our paint-your-own pottery pieces. Please note that we do not stock Cone 6 glazes, so artists must use their own.

High-Fire Clay

We do not offer kiln firing servies for high fire clay at this time.
